Sherman said she wanted to portray “the most artificial looking kinds of women” in her film still series. I find this photograph particularly haunting in the way it stages femininity as a problem–both glamorous and mundane, idealized and constraining. -xo SF
I love Cindy Sherman. I have her print as a librarian (obviously!) framed and on my desk. I have a couple others hanging around the house. She has quite the artistic eye.
