I can’t say I agree with all their picks, but I’m happy to see Kate Moennig, Beth Ditto, kd lang, and Joan Jett on Autostraddle’s Top 10 Lesbian Style & Fashion Icons list.
I love that dapper kd talks about herself almost as a third gender while simultaneously owning her “womanly” body. I’m not a Jackie Warner fan, but I think she deserved to make the list. But hey where’s Rachel Maddow, the new “Butch Fatale?”
I should admit that Ellen Degeneres is #1 on their list, but I would much rather put up a pic of Kate Moennig (#2) than Ellen. In addition to being everyone’s favorite sexy andro tomboy, she really does have great style. So there, Autostraddle! And you’re welcome, dear readers.

Wishing a sweet new year to all you nice (and not so nice) Jewish girls out there!
PS For inquiring minds, 5770 is the new year on the Hebrew calendar. I’m embarrassed to confess that I learned this from MTV’s website.

If you haven’t already seen it, check out Prof Susurro’s Top 10 Queer Movies to Watch Over and Over. Her list is probably the best one of its kind I’ve ever seen, including some titles I can’t wait to add to my netflicks queue. Which I will most certainly do, right after I pour myself a glass of wine and watch Vicky Cristina Barcelona–a happy surprise from today’s mail. Penelope Cruz. Scarlett Johansson. It’s like heaven, only better.

This is image is a part of Tom Wesselmann’s Bedroom Painting #38 — the face is so great I thought I’d share it with all of you. I love that it draws the viewer in with a seductive keyhole glimpse into a private moment of pleasure and yet we don’t get to see the whole scene or even the whole woman. We are left wondering who or what is turning her on–provoking a combination of intimacy and inaccessibility that I find intriguing and sexy. Hope you do too!
For those of you in the DC area, you can see the painting at the Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum of Contemporary Art.

Summer is coming to an end, my lovelies, so I’m raising my glass in appreciation. (For inquiring minds, I’m drinking Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel.) Van is mowing the lawn now but afterwards she’ll get the grill started for dinner. (Ours is charcoal, not gas, because I love the smokey taste and smell of the real thing.) I made a few simple dishes earlier in the day so all that’s left for me to do is find a cute outfit and put the finishing touches on dinner. Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday!

There’s something about the start of the school year that makes me happy even when I have way too much work to do. I must admit that this year Professor Sublimefemme is way behind schedule (thus the dearth of posts). Seriously darlings I need a research assistant. Any takers? I define “research” broadly and I am very appreciative of a job well done.
